Local Backstopper for the FORACCA project

We are looking for a Local  Backstopper for the FORACCA project.

 

The FORACCA Project, funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation, has been created to support reforestation efforts on community lands, climate-smart forest management and climate-resilient local development in Armenia through innovative practices and targeted support for policy development and implementation. 

 

The position of the WSL Backstopper Armenia is designed for the whole duration of FORACCA main phase 1 (2025-2028, 46 months), with a degree of employment of 1 day (8h)/week.

The WSL Backstopper Armenia is responsible to coordinate WSL activities in Armenia on the ground and supporting WSL’s project coordination to ensure proper, coherent and efficient implementation of the FORACCA project. This includes:

Support coordination of WSL in Armenia

  • Function as WSL’s contact person in Armenia

  • Support coordination efforts with Armenian partners and participate -whenever necessary - at coordination meetings with PIF, SDC and FA.

  • Contribute to WSL activities in Armenia, including scheduling and preparing meetings with stakeholders, logistical support for local workshops and other events, and providing inputs for communication and outreach.

  • Guide WSL team in Armenia

 

Facilitate collaboration, synergies, and knowledge sharing among WSL team members and others in Armenia.

  • Organize knowledge-sharing sessions to disseminate best practices, lessons learned, and project outcomes.

  • Support communication in FORACCA between (i) WSL and SDC, (ii) WSL and the Forest Alliance consortium, and (iii) WSL and other stakeholders in Armenia.

  • Organize translations of reports, policy briefs and other documents from English into Armenian.

 

Keep in close contact with the Forest Alliance consortium and have a detailed understanding of their timeline and the nature and progress of their activities and deliverables.

  • Inform WSL about progress and identify the potential for collaboration and synergies with the Forest Alliance consortium.

  • When necessary for policy-dialogue, facilitate contact with the Forest Alliance consortium, or other stakeholders.

  • Facilitate knowledge exchange between WSL and Armenian beneficiaries and stakeholders (NGOs, state institutions, municipalities) where there is a clear link to Forest Alliance activities

 

Competencies and requirements

​

  • Excellent skills in communication, organization, and project management

  • Experience of working in international development projects

  • Large network of stakeholders in Armenia including public administration, civil society, and international donors

  • Proficiency in Armenian and English (spoken and written)

  • Knowledge of environmental policy making in Armenia (incl. forest management and climate change adaptation) and relevant stakeholders in the sector would be an additional advantage.
